Music Adverts

For our ancillary task, as a group we decided that we create a cover for its release as part of the digipak (CD/DVD package) and also a magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package). Before deciding what we would put on both the magazine advert and the cover of the album, we had to look at several examples to some insight into what would be required of us. 


The examples for music adverts we looked at and tried to take some ideas from were; 

• Kanye West and Jay-Z
• Rihanna
• Green Day
• Noah and the Whale

Jay-Z and Kanye West's advert doesn't contain any pictures of them on the page, but it does have there album cover art with the title of there album on the top of the advert. 


Its quite a plain advert compared to many others that you may see in some magazines such Rihanna, Coldplay, Jessie J etc. The font seems to all be the same style, only difference being the size of the font.

On Rihanna's advert there's a big picture of Rihanna the artist in the background of the poster. In front of that you have the title of the album along with the picture of the album cover.

Unlike, Jay-Z and Kanye West's advert, this advert contains a lot more colour, brightness and vibrance to it. The colours on the advert, further portray the name of the album 'Loud'.

Green Days advert on the other hand, takes a different format to that of both Rihanna and Jay-Z and Kanye West. On the background of the advert is an image of Green Day's main singer.

The bottom half of the advert contains the contents of the album and its cover art, including the new singles that are present in the album being advertised.

Another element we are looking into is the star ratings and quotes from critics worldwide above. This may give our magazine advert more of a professional look and finish giving us the best possible grade for half of our ancillary task.

All the above adverts have given us some insight into what needs to be put into our own advert. There are several elements that will definitely be used in our advert. For example;

• the star ratings  
• quotes from critics, newspapers and magazines 
• Website for the band
• The album cover on

All of these will be features hat we are considering to put in our own magazine advert
